My Wittenberg door

Since the last couple of post have been not to friendly towards the local church, I think it is important that I list what I see as not only issues that arise from there being no perfect church.  But what I would call a completely different gospel.  So just as Luther posted his doctrinal theses on the Wittenberg door, so do I on this Wittenberg post.

  1. We say faith is what I posses, meaning salvation and adoption.  Instead of what it is, a hope.
  2. We say Christ came to credit us righteousness and forsake the covenant God gave Abraham when he was credited righteousness.
  3. We ignore that we were included into this righteousness given to Abraham through Christ.  Instead we assume we are given credited righteousness outside of the covenant given to Abraham.
  4. We say we find shadows of our gospel in the Old Testament, when the New Testament declares the Old Testament is our gospel.
  5. We say once saved always saved and yet there is no example in scripture of a man where he is able to break covenant with God and have God still embrace him.  Nor has any prophet or apostle spoke this.  We instead formulate this.
  6. We forsake the context of corporate meetings as taught by Paul.  That those who speak in tongues, interpret, prophesy or have a word of knowledge speak at the gathering of believers.  Instead we replace this with the office of the pastor.
  7. We pass out salvation at the altar as if we have that power, when scripture teaches that we will receive the end of our faith when Christ returns.
  8. We profess that God calls things that are not as if they were but tell Him not in our gospel when our hope being spoken of as here and now is taken literally.
  9. We forsake the gifts that God has determined for us that would bring about the manifestation of the Holy Spirit.
  10. We preach a gospel of prosperity and blessing instead of dying to self.
  11. We brag about our contemporary worship and ignore the fact that the above points put us in conflict with scripture, yet we refuse to understand that we are the one who worship in vain because we follow men rather than God.
  12. We consider ourselves a light to the lost, yet we refuse to follow what we are taught.
  13. We put up with all kinds of offense, abuses and those who wish to manipulate us because we believe we do not have a place to stand up for our gospel.
  14. We put up with all kinds of offenses , abuses and those who wish to manipulate us because we do not understand what our gospel is.
  15. We have forsaken Christ as the head of the body and replaced Him with the office of the pastor who tells the other offices at what time and at what capacity they may be able to use their gifts so that the church can be brought into complete maturity.
  16. We abuse the body because we sideline all spiritual gifts and offices to be spoon fed.

Should I praise the church because we still will say people come to God through it?  Come to what, we make them Samericans who worship what they do not know.  This blog is dedicated to the defense of the gospel as we have had it passed down to us by those whose writings we read, not what we naturally assume is the gospel.  This blog is a defense of the spiritual fellowship we see explained in scripture and not what we naturally assume is scriptural.

There are many good Samericans in churches who need people to teach and demonstrate what we have in our gospel even in the face of opposition.  But this does not mean that we have to cow tow to the churches or give place for their misguided efforts by saying, “There is no perfect church.”

  1. The Kingdom of God, the Bride, the Body of Christ, the Temple of God…..are made up of individual believers who have yielded themselves to the regenerative power of God unto holiness. The established church in the world and God’s Church/Bride/Kingdom/Body/Temple…are not the same thing.


  2. I hear you Dave and I know your heart is truly for the setting free of people…

    Can you please tell people how and demonstrate how TO live and not just tell people how NOT to live?

    They need to see and hear the truth manifest before them in our words and in our lives lived in front of them.

    • You are asking of me something I can not do. If I am to say it means being a good person, well even Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons are good people. Heck I believe even some pagans are good people.

      So what is lacking is not showing the people how to be good people. As you showed me once, scriptures says do not be surprised that the devil works through the message of righteousness. Very paraphrased.

      Can I show them how to have faith? No I can not. Can I give them a relationship with the Holy Spirit, no I can’t.

      Can I show them what scripture says about the true gospel, yes I can and I do. Can I show them why there current gospel is sickness, yes I can and I do.

      I do this because it does not matter how much faith you posses if you do not put your faith in the right thing. Hence hoping in false gods will do a man no good. Nor does hoping in a false gospel. So teaching them how to live means nothing if they can not live it according to the true gospel.

      What we have today is a bunch of Samericans who worship what they do not know. In order to make a difference, I have to get them to see they are Samericans, so they can know the truth, live by it and be set free.

      Scripture does not say the truth will set you free. It says living by the truth will set you free. I can show nobody how to live if I can not show them the truth. What has to happen to them once they accept the truth I present in The Gospel According to the Gospel has to be a Holy Spirit thing.

  3. I guess I am not merely speaking of faith and in what someone has laid that faith to be assigned to. In a more broad context, I am asking that since some of the contentions you have with mainstream Christianity are those that deal with the gifts of the Spirit manifest before the saints, please show the correct method also.

    For example, many of your posts deal with the control and manipulation by today’s Pastor in virtually eliminating the gifts of the Spirit from operation. How then are the gifts to be effectually working? Can you please say how and then show how? People are hungry for good food Dave, give it to them. Do not withhold… 🙂

    It is like you are exclaiming about how moldy, rotten, and nasty the food everyone is eating is. O.K. – Great… but better would be to show people how to make good food. Not just reading a recipe (quoting a scripture) alone, but really making it in front of them (discipleship). They will exercise their faith to make a move to stop eating the garbage, but they will also exercise their faith to observe the truth manifest before them and this takes time. If it were not so, Jesus would not have had to demonstrate to the twelve.

    He had to show them, prove His words… Let them try it… correct them… Show them again… correct them… Do it with them… correct… then… love them. Can you do this? Or will you just tell people what is wrong?

    • The problem the pastoral office, is that it is not an office. It is not a salaried job, it is not a degree you get from a seminary. It is a gift of the Spirit, just as are prophesy, speaking in tongues, teaching, etc. Look carefully at the “qualifications” for elders (same as our pastors) in 1 Timothy and Titus. Nowhere is there any indication that this is an ordained office as we treat it, but rather a list of character qualifications of who are to be elders, what type of people. The elders are not in authority above the congregation but a part of it. They are not to be the sole teachers from the pulpit, rather they are to shepherd by example as seasoned and wise men of God. The teachers are those gifted with teaching, though Paul does say elders are often teachers, this is not meant as the norm for all elders. This means for example, you may be teaching from the gifting of the Spirit while the elders sit around you with the rest of the congregation. And as the Spirits moves through the people, one with prophesy or tongues may be moved to speak as well during the “service,” Paul giving license for these to even interrupt your teaching. And you may not be the only teacher there, and as you speak what the Lord gave you, another may stand to teach after you. There may be singing worship songs inbetween the teaching, it is as the Spirit moves that we move. This is a picture of how gifts ought to be used in a regular service, with all active participants, not just a passive audience listening to the orations of the higher class professionals as we see today.

      • Well put put. But I can’t find any believers who are willing to risk the Holy Spirit. Instead it is the same ol thing. Even in small home fellowships. It is frustrating

  4. What do you mean, “…risk the Holy Spirit?” I am willing to risk my life for the effectual working of the Holy Spirit in my life… and that of those who need to be set free around me.

    15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God, 16 that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God. 18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient— 19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20 And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, (Romans 15:15-20, New King James Version)

    Come over here and start building the kingdom with me Dave… not laying on anyone else’s foundation. Let’s go get those Gentiles (of which we all are) who have not yet heard…

    Will you risk your life to allow the Holy Spirit to work in you towards these people?

    • Most are not willing to risk letting the Holy Spirit have His way in the fellowship, large or small. We just can’t see past what we have come to know, even in small groups.

      I am building on no other man’s foundation. Nobody else out there preaches the gospel I do. Check out my post “Is there anybody out there”, where I ask if there is anyone that preaches the gospel I do. Someone asked me, so I put the question out there. But nice try!

  5. But are you trying to build? …or just trying to tear down the old buildings of others? The later is usually only neccessary when you are putting a new structure in it’s place. Thus, I go back to my first and second comments. I believe your heart is good about it all, but words alone will not cut it and we both know Paul spoke of this… signs and wonders are not delivered via teaching alone…

    You took the words right out of my mouth. Well said. They have taken a gift of the Holy Spirit and contrived it to a profession.

    I don’t think it is a case of building something new or tearing down old foundations of others. I think it is more a question of bringing edification to the whole church wherever it may be reached in the hope that those who are in deception may come out and cleave to the true church. The “visible” organised church we see today is far removed from the church in scripture but regardless we know Christ is still building His church and His church may very well span the visible church also. In other words the weat and tares grow together till the time of the harvest. I therefore don’t believe that the work of apologetics and discernment should seek to build a new church but rather to seek to right the wrongs in the corporate (whole) church.
