Our gospel is completed but not finished

Our gospel has been completed from the foundation of the world.

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.[1]

Not only do we have the testimony that God rested on the seventh day, we have the testimony that from God’s perspective His work has been done since the foundation of the world.

We have the testimony that even Christ Himself was slain from the foundation of the world.

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.[2]

Even your name as a believer has been written in the Lambs book of life since the foundation of the world.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.[3]

Even your name as a believer has been written in the Lambs book of life since the foundation of the world.

Even our spiritual eternal dwelling and inheritance has been prepared since the foundation of the world.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:[4]

So in all ways and in all manners, our gospel has been completed since the foundation of the world.

But it is not finished.

We all know this famous scripture that Jesus quoted when He started His ministry.

The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,[5]

But do you know He put the scroll down before He finished the passage of Isaiah’s prophecy concerning Himself?

and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;  To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.  And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.  And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.  But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.[6]

Even though our gospel has been completed since the foundation of the world and God rested on the seventh day, there are still things that we have yet to see happen.  Has the day of vengeance yet come?  Has God gave them beauty for ashes, has He made it so they can be called trees of righteousness yet, has He made it so the gentiles will serve them?  No He hasn’t.

All things are completed in our gospel from God’s perspective.  This is more than foreknowledge.  Our gospel is completed in God before the foundation of the world, but to us the recipients it is not finished.  Since God had completed our gospel and our inheritance from before the foundation of the world should we not preach the gospel?  Of course not!  Those for whom the gospel was intended still needed to have the gospel preached to them.  Even Christ still needed to come for the recipients of His grace.

So we can see in every way our gospel is complete and nothing is lacking and furthermore it is already accomplished by God.  It is the manifesting of itself to its recipients that God is patiently forbearing with us.

We can see the Jews were expecting their Messiah to fulfill all the Isaiah spoke and not just the first part, this is why the disciples wanted to know if He was going to establish His kingdom.  Just as the Jews have yet to see all prophecies concerning their Messiah come to be manifest, so we too as Christians have yet to see some things that were spoken of yet to be manifest in our lives.

Just as our brothers of the Jewish nation have a future expectation of their Kingly Messiah, scripture teaches we Christians have an expectation of our coming Messiah bringing us our salvation.  Now of course both Calvinism and Arminianism teach we have already been given salvation and this causes a lot of tension between the two.

so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.[7]

However understanding that our gospel is complete but not yet finished erases this contention.  If when Christ comes again, He brings you your salvation then you are saved and eternally secure as the Calvinist teach.  If however , you shrink back and shipwreck your faith by not enduring to the end, you as a believer will have fallen away and not abiding in Christ find yourself outside of God’s grace and subject to damnation.

We see that waiting for the manifestation of our completed gospel is what erases the error of the doctrine of man in our gospel.

Please feel free to go to my blog “The Gospel According to the Gospel” to see my many efforts and scriptural support of this hope of salvation held out in the gospel as Paul would say.  Until then understand there is a goal to your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.[8]

Being blotted out of the Book of Life

Many believe and have been told they had their name written in the Book of Life when they received salvation.  (As a side note this blog wishes to demonstrate we are not saved until Christ returns… https://thegospelaccordingtothegospel.wordpress.com/posses-salvation/)   Many use the scripture from Luke and make this assumption.

Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.[1]

All this scripture says is be glad it is.  We need to be glad we have not had our part of the Book of Life taken from us.

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.[2]

Even Moses himself understood names could and will be blotted out and no longer remain written in Heaven.

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.  Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.  And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.[3]

So what does that mean for us today?  We need not buy into the false gospel that teaches:

  • Men’s names are written in the Book of Life at salvation.
    • When our names are written the Book of Life they will remain there forever.

Instead we need to live our lives so our names are not blotted out of the Book of Life.  We who have put our hope in Chris,t now have a hope of salvation. https://thegospelaccordingtothegospel.wordpress.com/posses-salvation/

So now we need to live out our hope in obedience and no longer deceive people with the false doctrines of the above mentioned.  Let us live our lives by The Gospel According to the Gospel.

Now for something really scary!

And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.[1]

As believers in Jesus Christ we take great comfort in the fact that we believers have our names written in the book of life.  Speaking of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, only those whose names are written in the Book of Life will enter.

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.[2]

And this is no surprise to us, for we all understand this.  But when do we get our names written in the Book of Life?  Many of us think of the time, we with sincere hearts gave our lives to the Lord as our Savior.  This moment is the time we fondly think of as passing from death to life and getting our names written in the Book of Life.  After all it makes sense that if we never get our names written in this book, we will burn in the lake of fire.

How many of us who feel secure in our position before the Lord and our knowledge of scripture, would be surprised to learn this is not what is taught in The Gospel According to the Gospel?

First of all, our names were never written down when we were convicted by the Holy Spirit that we were sinners, causing us to repent of our sins and then afterwards received forgiveness for our sins.  Instead scripture teaches, we had our names written in the Book of Life since the foundation of the world.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.[3]

This is the only place in scripture that speaks of when our names were put in the Book of Life.  From the foundation of the world your name and mine has been in this most important book.  Does this sound like God went to plan B when Adam sinned or if He thought it out a little bit more than we give Him credit, and we are actually still on plan A?

Well if our names our written down in His book since the foundation of the world, does this speak of the irresistible election that Calvin speaks of?  Meaning there are some who are elected and others who are not.  If you are elected your name is already in the Book of Life and you have no power to resist God’s grace too you.  You will and have to become a believer.  If you are not elected your name was never in the Book of Life and never will be.  You will never be saved because from eternity you were destined to go to hell.

Or is there something in the Gospel According to the Gospel that explains this better?  When we let scripture speak for itself we will find a shocking discovery.  Names are not written in the Book of Life permanently from the foundation of the world.  Names are blotted out!  That is right, names our put in the book from the foundation of the world and from there they are blotted out.

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.[4]

There is only one in whom we find eternal life and there is only one who can blot names out of the Book of Life and His name is Jesus.  Yes, Jesus tells us that if we are one of the overcomers our names will not be blotted out.  For most of us, this is scandalous, because this goes in the face of what we have come to believe.  This goes in the face of what we have come to believe because we have not believed in the Gospel According to the Gospel.

So what is scarier to you, the fact that names our blotted out of the Book of Life or the fact that many Christians and maybe you too have believed in another gospel not found in the Gospel According to the Gospel?
