Blinded defense

Many people believe that the events in the book of Revelation are chronological, meaning they happen one right after the other in the order they are presented in the book.  To me it seems as if people have not thought this our very well.  If we take the events of Revelation chronologically it paints a strange picture.

The sixth seal says the sun turns black, the moon to blood and the stars fall like over ripe fruit and then finally the sky is rolled up like a scroll.  Can you imagine having the order of the cosmos being undone and finally being rolled up and removed, no longer to be seen?

If all of this is done at the sixth seal, then can anyone tell me what in the heck is the fourth trumpet all about?  I thought all the cosmos was removed at the 6th seal, yet we have them back again at the fourth trumpet?  Did John forget to record the blowing of the 2nd kazoo that sounded the return of the sun moon and stars?

If we want to assume that the stars have fallen and the cosmos is rolled up at the sixth seal, this means that the antichrists kingdom will not have the benefit of the sun, moon and stars.  But if we say these are still there then what was the sixth seal all about?

If Revelation is chronological, doesn’t Jesus jump the gun a little?  At the sixth seal it says, “the great day of their wrath has come.”  What in the world is Jesus doing having the great day of His wrath at the sixth seal, when the rest of us are still waiting for the beast to take His kingdom after the trumpets?  Maybe we have it all wrong.  Maybe the beast doesn’t face God’s great day of wrath after all.

I also get a little confused about who is persecuting the Christians if I take Revelation chronologically.  At the 6th seal we have the saints who have come out of the great tribulation.  I have to assume that it includes the ones at the 5th seal asking the Lord how long.  So if the saints have come out of the great tribulation, then who is the Beast persecuting in when he gets his kingdom between the trumpets and the bowls?  His seams to have missed his own tribulation.

When taking Revelation chronologically I also get the feeling that Jesus has short term memory loss and presents to us a déjà vue. You know that strange funny feeling this has happened before.  We have a great earth quake and the Lord’s coming to do some great hind kicking at the sixth seal.  Yet I see Jesus doing an encore after the mystery of God is complete at the seventh trumpet.  There He has a great earthquake and He takes His power and begins to reign.  Was He joking the first time?  Was it practice?

And what is the big idea of Jesus taking His power and beginning to reign at the seventh trumpet only to give kingship of the earth back to the beast just before the bowls?  I always thought that when He began to reign He would put all of His enemies under His feet.  Not let the beast out.  In fact I always thought that when He comes and takes His authority and begins to reign He defeats the beast.  But how can He do this if the beast chronologically comes after He begins to reign?

Something doesn’t seem right in chronological land.  How is it men can defend this kind of view, by having blinders on?

Are we sure Hal Lindsey has it right?

Hal Lindsey has been saying for years that the Antichrist will come out of one of ten nations in Europe.  He has been advocating that these ten nations represent the ten toes in King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.  Saying the ten toes are the revived Roman empire.

Scripture teaches that ten kings will arise at one time only to give their power to the beast.  These kings will only have power for one hour.  Are we to believe that these existing countries in Europe will have an election then inaugurations that end at the same time, giving these men the power for the same hour?

“The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast.[1]

I’ve always understood Hal Lindsey to hint at these ten European nations as being strong, that the Euro was the back bone of this confederacy and it was going to grow to dominance.

Instead we have articles coming out where economist are saying the Euro will collapse.  Even though our main stream media never reported on it, Greece has been have a terrible time financially for over a year, with civil unrest at the same time.  Now the austerity measures put in place by Greece has caused money to flee their country and destroy their economy.  Consequently they have lost their voting rights in the European Union.  Now I thought Greece was part of the old Roman Empire.  The rest of Europe is at a loss what to do with Greece because its financial troubles will spread to the other European nations.

Portugal just got downgraded and guess what they recently did.  They put in place their own austerity measures.  Now Portugal is expected to go the way of Greece.

Great Brittan has been having discussions about austerity measures themselves.  However they have seen what has happened in other nations and are resisting it.  Article out of the UK are saying the numbers say they have 25% unemployment.  Economist are also expecting the British pound to collapse.

All of this adds up to a collapsing European Union and a collapsing Euro.  The only reason our dollar is strong right now is because other currencies are failing.  Not that our own dollar will not fail.  Last week we had a failed Bond market on 44 billion of two year treasury notes.  We have to raise three trillion in new debt and debt to be rolled over and we have no investors.  It is one thing to think our 30 year treasuries would be risky, but nations are rejecting our two year treasuries.  Nations don’t trust our financial predicament either.

The way I see it is the world economies, including the European Union, are collapsing.  Everybody is sinking at the same time.  If I were to guess, we are going to see more and more nations collapse financially until we are all wiped out with civil unrest accompanying.  Then out of those ashes we will have ten regional leaders be appointed to have power over the whole globe, not just Europe.  Then after that one hour the beast will be revealed to mankind.

It seems to me we are on the precipice of major change that will come through much turmoil with the loss of many lives and all liberty.  Especially for believers.  If Hal Lindsey is right, I would expect things to go a little differently, but it seems all things are pointing in other directions.

Being blotted out of the Book of Life

Many believe and have been told they had their name written in the Book of Life when they received salvation.  (As a side note this blog wishes to demonstrate we are not saved until Christ returns…   Many use the scripture from Luke and make this assumption.

Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.[1]

All this scripture says is be glad it is.  We need to be glad we have not had our part of the Book of Life taken from us.

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.[2]

Even Moses himself understood names could and will be blotted out and no longer remain written in Heaven.

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.  Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.  And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.[3]

So what does that mean for us today?  We need not buy into the false gospel that teaches:

  • Men’s names are written in the Book of Life at salvation.
    • When our names are written the Book of Life they will remain there forever.

Instead we need to live our lives so our names are not blotted out of the Book of Life.  We who have put our hope in Chris,t now have a hope of salvation.

So now we need to live out our hope in obedience and no longer deceive people with the false doctrines of the above mentioned.  Let us live our lives by The Gospel According to the Gospel.

Now for something really scary!

And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.[1]

As believers in Jesus Christ we take great comfort in the fact that we believers have our names written in the book of life.  Speaking of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, only those whose names are written in the Book of Life will enter.

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.[2]

And this is no surprise to us, for we all understand this.  But when do we get our names written in the Book of Life?  Many of us think of the time, we with sincere hearts gave our lives to the Lord as our Savior.  This moment is the time we fondly think of as passing from death to life and getting our names written in the Book of Life.  After all it makes sense that if we never get our names written in this book, we will burn in the lake of fire.

How many of us who feel secure in our position before the Lord and our knowledge of scripture, would be surprised to learn this is not what is taught in The Gospel According to the Gospel?

First of all, our names were never written down when we were convicted by the Holy Spirit that we were sinners, causing us to repent of our sins and then afterwards received forgiveness for our sins.  Instead scripture teaches, we had our names written in the Book of Life since the foundation of the world.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.[3]

This is the only place in scripture that speaks of when our names were put in the Book of Life.  From the foundation of the world your name and mine has been in this most important book.  Does this sound like God went to plan B when Adam sinned or if He thought it out a little bit more than we give Him credit, and we are actually still on plan A?

Well if our names our written down in His book since the foundation of the world, does this speak of the irresistible election that Calvin speaks of?  Meaning there are some who are elected and others who are not.  If you are elected your name is already in the Book of Life and you have no power to resist God’s grace too you.  You will and have to become a believer.  If you are not elected your name was never in the Book of Life and never will be.  You will never be saved because from eternity you were destined to go to hell.

Or is there something in the Gospel According to the Gospel that explains this better?  When we let scripture speak for itself we will find a shocking discovery.  Names are not written in the Book of Life permanently from the foundation of the world.  Names are blotted out!  That is right, names our put in the book from the foundation of the world and from there they are blotted out.

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.[4]

There is only one in whom we find eternal life and there is only one who can blot names out of the Book of Life and His name is Jesus.  Yes, Jesus tells us that if we are one of the overcomers our names will not be blotted out.  For most of us, this is scandalous, because this goes in the face of what we have come to believe.  This goes in the face of what we have come to believe because we have not believed in the Gospel According to the Gospel.

So what is scarier to you, the fact that names our blotted out of the Book of Life or the fact that many Christians and maybe you too have believed in another gospel not found in the Gospel According to the Gospel?

Repentance and Revelation

I was reading in the book of revelation, and to confirm a suspicion of mine, Jesus was expecting people who have strayed from the straight and narrow to repent. He wasn’t just asking the heathen to repent. He was telling the church to repent.
If Jesus was expecting the church to repent when He found them in sin, how much more should we the church give opportunity for the lost to face their sins and repent? Are we keeping to the gospel we have received from the Apostles when we invite people to a relationship with the Lord? How about giving them the opportunity to trust in Jesus?
There are many versions of altar calls that never approach the topic of sin and the absolutely necessity of repentance.
When we do this to the lost are we doing them any service? Is it not true that we offer a lot of God’s love to the lost and we even offer forgiveness? But is this the gospel we are to follow?
Can anyone find for me in the first three chapters in Revelation where Jesus told the church, to receive His love and forgiveness? Repentance I found and I only found it no less than seven times when He told the church to repent!
If we have concluded we do not need to be so old-fashioned and out dated maybe we are not better than the world renowned scholar and theologian Daffy Duck who would say consequences smonsequences.
