Satan’s parallax view on your children

It don’t matter to me, if you take up with some one who is better than me.  Cause your happiness is all I want, for you to find…  Lot of people have a legal hang up cause they want to be the only one.  How many came before it really doesn’t matter just as long as you’re the last.  Everybody is moving on trying to find what’s been missing in the past.

Those words became popular in society through the pop hit “It doesn’t matter to me” by the band Bread.  This song is now lost in the almost unknowable amount of songs that glorify “romance” in our culture.  But it is not so much romance but a liberty to be free from Godly commitment in sexual relationships.  Thanks to the direction this nation is headed in, we have a plethora of T. V. and internet inducements as well to be involved in infidelity either in mind or in deed.

Make no mistake, we are under attack.  This is not friendly fire.  We are in the parallax view of one of the most destructive weapons to the church.  The goal is not your destruction.  Oh no, by no means.  Statistically you have a fifty percent chance of already being considered a bull’s eye.  The emphasis of this attack is your children.

Oh how lightly we pass our indulgences off as needing to find happiness.  After all God wants you to be happy, doesn’t He?  We confess we have needs too, and one ill deed begets another.  Soon we find culture is having a hard time keeping up with the church in its perversion of the marriage covenant.  All of this to destroy your children and send them to hell.  And we all thought it was about us.

Scripture declares that God has a purpose in Holy matrimony.  There is a reason God instituted the marriage covenant.  There is distinct purpose for the Lord to make the two become one flesh.  God did this because He was seeking Godly offspring.  And we think it is all about us.  But no, it isn’t just to keep us godly, it is because God wants godly offspring.

Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.[1]

Yes the institution of marriage is a beautiful thing.  A man and a woman can come together in a courtship with godly supervision.  The father is to protect his daughters under his roof with attentive care until she is properly given to a young man of God.  In this they will with clean hearts become one flesh and raise godly children.  And yes their lives will be full of true innocent romance.

Instead we have a culture so tumultuous turning and overturning itself in a desperate unprotected search for “love”.  One half or our media is consumed with finding love and the other half is dealing with broken hearts.  Most songs will fit into those two categories

Our culture is left with a fifty percent divorce rate, unwed mothers, people cohabiting together and homosexuality.  Satan has surrounded the camp of society.  In the church he is in our midst, inside the camp.  But he doesn’t come to confront the church with full frontal nudity, it is just suggestive.  It was only a little homosexual humor.  We knew what was happening, they just didn’t show it.  And this we even let get spoon fed to our children.

We have forgotten how to blush even at commercials.  We feed sexual content to our children in commercials every ten minutes.  Not that all commercials are that way so it’s not that bad, right?

We go to the altar of entertainment’s perversion so frequently that the statistics say that average father spends less than eleven minutes in meaningful conversation with his children for the whole day.  However our children watch six hours of TV a day.  So much for fathers teaching their children of the Lord.  And we think fornication is all about us.  It is about our children.

We have shown our children that we are hypocrites, that we do not really believe what say we believe.  We show them God’s word is folly to us.  Oh yes we go to church and sing praises to His name and are actively involved.  But in our private lives we don’t have an honest parent to child conversation that last more than eleven minutes.  Of that how much is instructions in the Lord?  Instead we give our children to Howard Stern and other trashy filth in the morning radio shows.  Let them feast on promiscuity in school.  Then top it off with a steady diet of TV as their reward once homework is done.

And we think our double mindedness and little indulgences here and there are only about us.  We think our right to be happy with the one we are with concerns us.  It is about our children.  What a shame that even in church, a true godly young man or woman with a passion for knowing God seems extraordinary to us.

I have two messages I would like to leave you with.  First of all to the younger crowd.  Forsake the god of your fathers.  Do not do what your fathers do.  Don’t think romance is all about you, it is not.  Vow yourself to the God of scripture who calls His people to live Holy and being separated.  Do not give your children into the hands of their devourer because you did not honor the marriage bed.  Pledge in your heart that you will be godly in your relationships and entertainment.  It is not just about you, it is about your children.

My second message is to us all.  Give up the sin that so easily entangle us.  Television is not wholesome.  Unplug the cable and turn off the satellite.  If you want television, there are plenty of wholesome shows from yesteryear that you can buy to watch.  Enjoy a good show with your family without having to be exposed to sexual content in commercials every ten minutes.

Read to and with your children.  Read and study God’s word with your children.  Pray as you come together as a family.  Let your children see you read and study God’s word for yourself.  Let your children see you love your spouse.  They can not see it when we are watching flesh.  How can we expect our children to honor the marriage bed if we will not in our pursuit of so called entertainment?

But alas, I am asking you for the impossible.  There is no way you can do this.  Unless you walk in the Spirit.  If the Spirit of God is in you, you will not satisfy the desires of the flesh.  If He is not in you, you will not be inclined to change and will excuse your continued walking in the flesh.  You will reject this and any call to live godly and raise godly children.  You will assume your children’s relationship with God will be by osmosis’s in church.  Not by an actual lifestyle and participation in their lives.  Satan will have want He wants.  He will have your children like he already has you.

If your find yourself in a place you wish not to be, if your have slipped backwards and not gone forward there is a refreshing place to change your hearts.  Are you tired or going to church only to feel God does not see, that He does not hear or pay attention to you and your needs where you are?  There is a rest to find.  If you have given into the lie of worldly romance, worldly entertainment, little indulgences here and there.  It you have children who care not for the Lord or if your own heart is calloused, ask God to search your heart.  If you have tears let it not be because God does not hear you, let it be because you have left Him for the simply average American Christian lifestyle.

Another thing you do: You flood the Lord’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.  You ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.[2]

If we have blown it in our walk the Lord and the Holy Spirit no longer convicts you when willingly participate in ungodly entertainment, if you have been trapped in the revolving door of marriage, if you have secret sins, cry out to the one who can save you.  He is the one who can give you a new heart.  Walk in the freshness of the Lord’s life giving Spirit.  Come to Him with a repentant heart and let Him heal you.  Don’t just seek Him, perhaps reach out to Him and find Him.

[1] Malachi 2:15

[2] Malachi 2:13-4

Do you see what I see?

Do you see what I see?

I don’t know about you, but I constantly get reminded by Christians that we can not live a life without sin.  Many of us will just capitulate instantly to this condition.  They are always quick to give us the justification for this mindset from scripture.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.[1]

But at this point I have to ask, is it me or is it me?  I do not see scripture that reads, “If we say we are not sinning…”  I see scripture that says, “If we say that we have not sinned…”

I know I always get the run around from people who try to put me in the cross hairs when I say we can be a people who, as Jesus says, are perfect.

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.[2]

I get reminded that it may be the goal to be perfect but God knows it is impossible for us.  At which times it is not uncommon that I get asked how many sins and at what point will a man go to hell if he isn’t perfect.  I get accused of salvation by works.  I am sure some of you know what I am talking about.

But I still have to ask the question, do you see what I see?  I see a scripture that tells people they are liars if they say they have not sinned.  I don’t see scripture that teaches we are liars if we say we are not sinning.  Do you?

As I see it, I can be a believer that confesses that I am a sinner (have sinned) and now my savior, through His Spirit, has so changed me that I through the Spirit no longer sin.  In doing this I have not violated 1 John 1:10 why, because I confessed I am a sinner who needs a savior.  I repented of my sins past.

People in the church teach that we are not really expected to keep His commandments in anything more than a loose way.  After all God knows we can’t, because of our sin nature.  But I though we got a new nature, a divine nature, when we were born again?

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.[3]

So when we as believers deny the very fact that we are called to walk in the Spirit and not after the world and its corruption through lust, don’t we deny the very promises that were given to us so that by them we might be of a divine nature?

We totally reject the notion that it is impossible for a believer to sin, for we chase after another gospel, even in Christendom, that teaches we can not obey scripture or the Spirit we brag is our deposit.

Concerning such promises that by them we may be partakers of the divine nature, we reject the hope to receive the crown of life if we can not endure temptation, nor teach that it can be endured even by a new nature in Christ.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.[4]

I know this is only a small matter in some tucked away verse in the bible so it probably means nothing.  But I still have to ask, do you see what I see?  I see a church who won’t live by the Spirit what is promised, rather justifies itself in not doing so by twisting a scripture to say something it does not say.

I don’t cast out devils, but it doesn’t mean I don’t think believers should.  I don’t lay hands on the sick so they become well, but it doesn’t mean I don’t think believers should.  I am not perfect by any stretch of the means, but it doesn’t mean I don’t think believer should be.

Are we willing to strive for what is most excellent and part of the believer’s life or do we think the status quo is good?  Christianity likes to give believers two options, cold or lukewarm.  I want hot!  What do you strive for?

Emotions or bust!

I have been checking the Christian Tragedy Channel and as usual there are those great men of God, with multitudes of disciples and even more followers and admirers, proclaiming the same message they always do.  Peace and prosperity to those who believe and have faith.  Their message is that God is going to restore broken things in their lives and give them abundance again.

We have the organized church resembling any and everything but what we see described to us in scripture.  And these men on the Christian Tragedy Channel will not address those things that make us sick and backslidden.  They ignore the sins of the people and speak smooth things to us instead.

We as a “people of God” are not willing to listen to God and what His word says.  If anyone does speak the word of God to us, so we can repent and be healed, him we disqualify as angry and bitter.  With such a legalistic and mislead person we will not contend.

We are like another “people of God’ who would not listen to the Lord.  They like us had the worship, the anointing, the promises, the hope and the one true God, but they like us were hardened and obstinate.

But the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for the whole house of Israel is hardened and obstinate.[1]

We have strayed from the Lord the God of our salvation.  We do refuse to look at how we have strayed from what scripture teaches.  We ignore scripture that says, we are to have Apostle, Prophets, Evangelist, Teachers and finally preachers in the assembly of believers.  We ignore Christ our head for man to lead us.  It isn’t the Holy Spirit that teaches us, we have traded Him off for a good doctrine of men.  We ignore that it is sin that keeps us separated from God, so we preach His love for us instead.  We ignore the message of repentance that will result in our sins being forgiven.

We don’t seek to know God’s word for ourselves, instead we eat another mans flesh and drink his blood because we have left The Gospel According to the Gospel.  We have abandoned the teachings of Scripture for another gospel.  Yah, we say we are Christ’s and we say we are saved and we say we obey the doctrines of scriptures, but of us it is true.

You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:  “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'”[2]

Oh yah, we do honor God with our lips and it is true honor.  And yes we do worship Him and it is true worship, but it is all in vain.  It is a vanity, vanity, vanity because we do this with our own wisdom instead of the instructions of the Lord we find in scripture.

So how is it we can recognize a man of God today?  Is it the one who draws large crowds and has a successful ministry?  Or is it one who is vexed at the situation of the “people of God” and have no followers?  Is the one who speaks blessings and prosperity or is it the one who speaks of judgment and warns us?  Is it the one who is kindly and gentle or the one who in his zeal for God and His word, is angry in spirit at our turning from God?

The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the LORD upon me.[3]

When Ezekiel was confronted with God and His opinion on the matter, the Lord was strongly with him and he was bitter and angry in spirit.

I am sure I speak for others when I say, we are befuddled, confused, sickened in heart, stricken with grief and dumbfounded, that those who call themselves believers and yet do not do what scripture teaches are content not to look inwards for the benefit of their own souls.  We are a gassed, vexed, sorrowful, mournful, beside ourselves and at a loss as to why a “people of God” with such apathy will not discus or even look at what we are saying.

My hope is that The Gospel According the Gospel will be a place where people will come and be challenged.  A place will people can ask questions and challenge me to give an account.  I want it to be a place were we as a people of God can open the word of God and repent when we find we do not line up with scripture.

Let us be those who challenge the people of God to return to Him, before it has to get to a bitter and angry spirit because we have no zeal for God or obeying His word.  Let’s get passionate for God, before God before He let’s loose His passion on us.

Don’t do anything that is not Christian

Who can count the number of believers who take confidence in Jesus’ ability to bring us home?  Many a believer has taken comfort that Jesus will keep them from falling away into damnation.  In fact multitudes believe it is impossible for true believers and disciples to fall away from Christ because Christ makes it impossible for us to do so.  They are happy to quote for us the following verse.

You have heard it said.

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy–[1]

But we say.

To him who will keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy

For many a believer today we have replaced the words “is able” with the word “will”.  I know it doesn’t matter to us that we handle scripture this way.  We were told by our teachers that the meaning of “is able” in the court of law doesn’t mean what it should in scripture.  How many of you have a Will?  How many of you have you Will state the words “shall or will”?

Really, what hypocrisy.  None of us makes a Will or a legal document of any kind and put the words “is able” in place of “shall or will”.  Ironic isn’t it that the Will is called what it is because people will abide by what is written in it.  When you die you don’t have to worry about those who are to carry out your wishes only being able to, leaving room for them to do something different instead.

Why is it we treat the living word of God with less respect than a legal document.  We are more studious to make sure every “t” is crossed and every “i” is dotted in our legal document because we know the words “is able” doesn’t mean “will”.  Yet with the word of God, we nonchalantly through aside such care and concern about treating the word of God with such care.  Then afterward we proclaim a doctrine of salvation from this misuse of scripture.

If I am so full of it, prove me wrong.  Have your Lawyer replace in all your legal documents the words “shall” and “will” with the words “is able”.  We truly are hypocrites!  What we teach is not practiced in what we do.

The facts of scripture remain the same no matter how much we misuse them.  We have a hope of salvation held out in the gospel and Christ is able to bring us our promise of salvation.  But we must remain, abide, obey, believe until the end in order to make this hope sure.  Yes, Jesus is able but we have to participate in a willing manner ourselves, according to scripture and not according to our beliefs.

Stop!  Don’t change the way you look at salvation now.  You don’t want to show the same respect for what God has written as you do for what your Lawyer has written.  This wouldn’t be the Christian way.  You don’t want to do anything that is not Christian do you?

[1] Jude 1:24

Hear the word of the Lord

Voices, voices, voices, there are many voices out there in the world of Christendom calling for a following of devotion.  People, people, people, there are many people in the world of Christendom who are willing to be the following devoted.

People are so desperate for the supernatural they have forgotten that our scripture is complete and needs no other word of the Lord.  They have strayed from the belief that we need no other new word from the Lord.  We have what we need in scripture and we lack nothing for our spiritual lives.

In books and on the internet there are claims of the supernatural and visitation of angels.  There are so called Christians who claim to have messages from angelic visitors that are clearly extra biblical.  Such encounters include visitations from the Angel of Finance on how to prosper in your life and ministry.  And many, if you want to call them that, Christians buy this stuff hook line and sinker.

Many such extra biblical stuff can be found by so called prophets of God proclaiming this and that.  Things that are clearly outside of the teaching of the bible.  One such website is called “The Elijah List”.

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.[1]

I know of a man who had a visitation of God.  It wasn’t just an angel sent from the Lord, it was the Lord Himself.  Now this guy could brag about being taught something that was not in scripture, after all it was the Lord who taught him of Himself.  And this happened repeatedly.  Meaning over and over again.  I wonder what little extra bits of information this person got from God?  What little extra stuff did he learn since it was God who was revealing Himself to this man, that was not known of God at this time?

Nothing!  Absolutely nothing was revealed that had not been made known already.  Nothing was given as an extra revelation to this man Samuel.  Instead this repeated visitation of God to Samuel and His revealing of Himself to Samuel was all done through His word.

The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.[2]

Why should this surprise us?  I have been advocating that our gospel started at Mt. Sinai as scripture teaches.  So why would it be impossible for Samuel to understand and know God from His word?  Why would it be impossible for Samuel to know and understand the hope we have in our gospel?  Samuel was taught our gospel that was preached at Mt. Sinai from God, but God taught him nothing outside of His word.

We have those going around claiming to have extra biblical spiritual information resulting from the visitation of angels.  Yet God Himself stuck to His word.  What these angels from God have liberties that God Himself did not take?  No, these Angels are not from God.  They go outside of the word of God.  Or is it that our so called prophets of today are greater than Samuel, whom God Himself visited.  I hardly doubt it!

The serious side of the heart

What should be done with the men who are of the covenant of Abraham but serve other Gods.  It isn’t that they had actual idols in their possession.  It was that they had set up idols in their hearts.  It reminds me of Jesus when He speaks of the sin of the heart and not just the actual commitment of the sin.

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.[1]

Ironically we think Jesus had raised the bar on sin, but in reality He was only restating the sin of the heart found in the Old Testament.

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?[2]

God speaking of men in Ezekiel’s day says men have set their hearts to serve other things above God.  They have let things pass in front of their faces that became a stumbling block to them.

How many things do we allow to pass before our eyes that become stumbling blocks to us?  How many messages of sensuality do we receive from TV programming, let alone the commercials?  How many things do we have pass before our eyes even on the back of vehicles now days?  It is a shame the soft porn that has crept onto the windows of trucks now days.  It is almost impossible now days to keep things from passing before our faces, even for the most conscientious person, and not to be bombarded with garbage in every avenue of life now days.

From Library books, magazine racks at the grocery store, to movies, TV and the internet there is so much garbage that passes before our faces to give opportunity to become stumbling stones to us.  How does one keep their hearts pure before the Lord when the world is doing just the opposite of what we are commanded to do?

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.[3]

But what happens to the individual who after doing all to stand does not stand?  What happens of the individual, who has the covenant of God, now giving place in their heart to the idol of sins of the heart?  Should they now be allowed to call upon the name of the Lord?  In the above verses God ask Ezekiel this very question.  Well what do you think God should do to such a people, who have given themselves over to sins of the heart that have become stumbling stones and idols to the believer?  Should God let them inquire of Him?

God says He will answer those who have stumbling blocks of iniquity and establishes idols in his heart, according to their sins.

Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;[4]

God sums it up by saying those who have inequity in their hearts will be punished.

And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;[5]

If we find ourselves with stumbling stones passing before our faces and idols of sins of the heart in place of our God, don’t let the Lord answer you according to your sins and cut you off from His people.  Don’t let God use us to show to His people that He is the Lord.

For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.[6]

Don’t take comfort in the false teaching of eternal security.  Jesus has said over and over again He says nothing on His own and that He only says what He has heard His Father say.  So if Jesus is not setting a higher standard and only reinforcing what He has heard His Father say, let us hear the world of the Lord.  Let us know that we as a people who have a hope salvation, we can be cut off from His people.  We can be cut off from our hope of salvation.

Let us repent as the people of God.  Let us remove what passes before our eyes that can become a stumbling block and a snare to us.  Let us turn our faces away from all those things that cause sin in our hearts.

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.[7]

God will judge the sins of the heart.  He will cut off and destroy those of us who do not repent of the private sins of the heart.  He will not comfort His people who have set up idols in their hearts.  He will not comfort those who sin in their hearts with the idolatry of eternal security.  He will cut them off as an example, so His people will know He is the Lord.  He will do this so His people will stray no more nor be polluted by society.  They will be His people and He will be their God.

That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.[8]

May we as His people have not only the belief in the gospel but also have the power of the gospel at work in our lives that we may be born again and set free from the power of sin and death, as discussed in yesterday’s post “Can we believe in God in vain?”

God we confess our sins of the heart to you, sins we do not seek out but sins we allow into our hearts.  Please God forgive us our secret sins that we have set up as idols in our hearts.  By your Holy Spirit set us free from the power of sin and death in our lives so that we may live to righteousness, as your word proclaims for those who have a hope of salvation.
